Our Team

MyGlobalClassroom is proud of our ability to secure a top team of experts and volunteers who have brought our vision to life and kept us going for the last 20+ years. Meet the current staff and advisors who each day wave the MGC magic wand and change lives.

Rabbi Melvin Silverman

Rabbi Melvin Silverman retired in 2017 following a 21-year affiliation with the Malibu Jewish Center. Having planned to write a memoir and spend time traveling, Rabbi Mel (as he is known) decided to dedicate his remaining years to public service -- and we thank our lucky stars he came our way! MyGlobalClassroom is honored to have Rabbi Silverman as one of our principal leaders. Mel’s vision and insight into helping others and spreading goodwill throughout the world is relevant and vibrant. He demonstrates on a daily basis how each of us can make a far bigger difference than we think.

Sam Stern

Sam Stern joined the Board of MyGlobalClassroom in 2016, bringing his extensive financial expertise and deep passion for helping underserved children. Raised in Atherton, California, Sam previously served as president of a Nevada Savings and Loan. He later founded the Stern Family Foundation, dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth in Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, and Henderson, Nevada. In addition to his work with MyGlobalClassroom, Sam serves on the boards of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum and The Boys & Girls Club. His commitment to creating brighter futures for children is a source of great pride for our organization.

Gordon D. Guy

Gordon Guy is a native Philadelphian who has dedicated his life to promoting the City of Brotherly Love, and the liberty and inclusion for which it stands. Born in 1946, Gordon attended Cheltenham High and received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Temple University, where he became a social scientist. His classes are legendary, not only locally but across the country, by way of his archival recordings for NPR. Gordon has been called “the modern-day Studs Terkel” because he encourages people to tell their own stories in their own words. “There is no better way to capture the essence of a person rather than simply listening. Each individual’s words are their own music,” insists Gordon. Now retired from teaching, Gordon has found that making the dreams and possibilities of the world's most disadvantaged children come true is his passion. Gordon lives in suburban Philadelphia.
